The Myth of Public Education

By Dan Thompson
Osburn, Idaho

December 10,2011

What every law abiding, hard working American should want for their children, is not only to put an end to the pernicious school myth, that "public education is good for our children," but more importantly, the bringing to an end of federal and state control of education. And, in its place restoring the absolute right and responsibility of education back to the parents and their community.

This deceptive myth has insidiously destroyed the bedrock principles that made America great; it has been, and is to this day, the ruin of every good and decent thing that once, not long ago, made America the hope and the envy of the world. Public education has been made a powerful means to reduce the minds of our children to a dependency upon authority figures to do their thinking for them.

This treachery is called "social engineering." It is the source of our society's sickness, and it is most certainly not its cure. While the myth lives, we will never revive the American Dream and the Republic which it was founded upon.

The Oath of Enlistment, 1966

Robin Lake
Pinehurst, Idaho

December 09, 2011

On the morning of July 28, 1966, at the US Army Recruitment Center in Spokane, Washington, I was standing in the midst of about 60 other young men. Many of us had come to Spokane from our home towns the day before and had stayed the night to be there at the requisit hour the following morning. We had already undergone physical exams, written testing, and a little psychological evaluation. Within minutes we would undergo a life-altering event, and become, temporarily, the property of the US Army. It would happen when we recited the following words.

I, Robin Lake, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

Water Adjudication: theft by another name?

I attended a class this week on water rights in Idaho and how the laws are changing. It is scary! I think there should be a letter in the Silver Valley Online to tell people to have any water source they use to be adjudicated as soon as possible.

If your source of water is a municipal source and you have less than ½ acre, you will not be affected by the new laws that are coming to Idaho water users. If you have more than ½ acre and have any source of water, such as a well, creek, pond on your land you need to contact the Idaho Dept. of Water Resources and fill out their form to have your water adjudicated. Just because you think you are "grandfathered in" you are not! There is a small fee required for every water source you have but it is important that you follow the system for now and pay the fee. After you have your water adjudicated then tell your friends to do the same.

Self-Defense Handguns

Even though crime RATES nationwide show a decline, we are still faced with the reality that crime strikes everywhere and can impact you personally. Home invasion, robbery, daytime burglary,car-jacking, and assaults continue to happen even in areas known for low crime.

Police will not normally be available to prevent an attack or robbery. Police are there to help you pick up the pieces and maybe bring some justice to you and the community. Unfortunately, criminals don't like to do their dirty work while a cop is standing close by. Many people want to have a means of protection readily available at all times. To many that means having a handgun conveniently located on or about your person.
